Domingo German is 16-2 — Aug 13, 2019: NY 8 Baltimore 3

DJ LeMahieu hit a home run on the 1st pitch thrown by an Oriole pitcher in the game. “Well that’s impressive” deadpanned Oriole announcer Gary Thorne. In the 2nd, Cameron Maybin doubled in 2 runs and it was 3-0 Yanks and it was off to another Yankee blowout of the Orioles. NY is now 16-2 against the Orioles this year.

Meanwhile Domingo German dominated. Again. Throwing strikes; getting ahead in the count; his curveball curving. He pitched 7 strong innings, allowed 5 hits and 2 runs, struck out 7, walked 2, to go 16-2 3.96 and reignite Cy Young talk.

Judge was SMOKING It

Maybe the best news of all: Aaron Judge smoked the ball a couple of times tonite — a 2-RBI double ripped to right to make it 5-1 in the 3rd, and a bases-loaded line drive to center to end the 7th — if he had hit the ball 2 millimeters lower it might’ve been a bases-clearing double. He’s close.

And Gary Sanchez doubled in 2 runs in the 4th to make it 7-1, after Gio Urshela (3 for 5, now batting .336) had singled in a run. Mike Tauchman (remember him?) doubled in a run in the 5th to make it 8-2.

All Oriole Runs on Solo Homers

The Orioles got their runs against German on home runs — a solo shot by right fielder Anthony Santander in the 4th, and a solo shot by centerfielder Stevie Wilkerson in the 5th.

Some guy named Adonis Rosa pitched the last 2 innings for the Yanks, struck out 2 and allowed only a solo shot to 1st baseman Renato Núñez in the 9th for the final score, 8-3, and ballgame. Rosa was sent back down to AAA right after the game. Welcome to baseball circa 2019. Rosa is a 22-yr-old Dominican. He looked good. His last 3 starts at Scranton a 1.69 ERA.

Etcetera

Everyone in the Yankee lineup got a hit. Gleyber Torres got a hit and a walk; Didi Gregorius got a hit; Austin Romine got 3 hits.

Urshela is now batting .336 to LeMahieu’s league-leading .337. Urshela does not currently qualify but soon will if he continues playing every day.

Baltimore announcer Gary Thorne had this to say before the game:
