DJ LeMahieu led off the game with a single to right; Luke Voit followed with a single to left; and Gary Sanchez swung and missed at ball four — a pitch way outside, fouled off a pitch, then launched a line drive homerun to left and after 3 batters, it was 3-0 Yankees. Ballgame.

If you were a Baltimore Orioles fan, after watching the Yankees outscore Baltimore 9-1 in the last 4 innings of the game the night before — it was time to go do something else. Domingo German was on the mound for the Yanks, entering with a MLB-leading 8-1 2.50 record.
German set down the Orioles with ease through the first 2 innings. Meanwhile, the Yankees piled on more runs — in the 3rd, Gio Urshela doubled in a run and then Clint Frazier hit a 2-run shot.
German Gets Out of Trouble in the 3rd
With a 6-0 lead, German got into trouble in the 3rd, but got out of a bases loaded, 2 out situation on a ground ball to 2nd by Rio Ruiz. But his pitch count was climbing.
Domingo German gets out of the bases-loaded jam to keep the Yankees in front, 6-0, after three innings of play.

German Touched for a 3-Run Homer
German got a 1-2-3 4th inning, but in the 5th, he made an error himself on an easy toss to 1st, and then allowed a 3-run homer to Wilkerson to make it 9-3. He got 3 of the next 4 guys including the last 2 batters of the inning and called it a day with a 5-inning, 2 earned run performance to go 9-1 2.60 on the season. German finished with 93 pitches; 62 strikes.
All Hail Hale
David Hale is back up; he was up last year and pitched fairly well in several outings. In this game he pitched the last 4 innings, allowing 1 run — arguably pitched better than German! — to get a save. If there was one not-so-good thing to come from this win, is that German wasn’t scintillating; in fact he ‘got through it’. Hopefully just an off start.
Other Yanks
Gleyber Torres continued his mastery of the Orioles with a 1-3, 2 walks, RBI performance. Aaron Hicks and Cameron Maybin got hits joining LeMahieu, Voit, Sanchez, Urshela, and Frazier in the Yankee hit parade. LeMahieu with 3 hits is now batting .325; Gleyber Torres is at .299.
