Austin Wells solo HR ties game 1-1 in 3rd.

Austin Wells hit a HR to tie the game 1-1, Cody Bellinger singled in a run to put the Yanks ahead 2-1 in the 6th, and Jasson Dominguez hit an insurance HR in the 7th to back solid pitching by Ryan Weathers and the Yankee pen for a 3-1 win in Philly on a Saturday night.

Angel Chivilli relieved Weathers to get the last out of the 6th, Paul Blackburn pitched a shutout 7th and 8th, and David Bednar got another 1-2-3 non-agita save.

The only bad news was that Cody Bellinger was pulled from the game after pulling his hamstring while hitting a double in the 8th.

“Made some big pitches in big spots,” said manager Aaron Boone about Weathers. “Thought his changeup again was good. The sweeper was a better pitch for him tonite, but he did a good job using his fastball too. His mix was excellent. He and Wellsy did a really good job. He got into a really good rhythm as he got into the game. Really strong outing for him that set us up tonite.”

NY improves to 59-45, and remain 2 behind Tampa and are 5.5 ahead of Boston. Philadelphia falls to 56-49.

1. Weathers Good

Ryan Weathers didn’t start off well — hitting Trea Turner with a pitch to start the game, then allowing a double to Kyle Schwarber and a sac fly to Bryce Harper and it was 1-0 Philly just like that.

But he got a groundout and strikeout to end the 1st, stranding Schwarber on 2nd.

He worked around a 1-out walk in the 2nd, and then allowed consecutive singles to Trea Turner and Schwarber to start the 3rd, but got Bryce Harper to hit into a double play and got a flyout to end the inning.

Weathers allowed consecutive 1-out singles in the 4th — but got a lineout and strikeout to end the inning.

Finally Weathers started to gain rhythm, and pitched a 1-2-3 inning in the 5th and got the first 2 outs of the 6th before allowing a single and yielding to Angel Chivili. By that time NY had a 2-1 lead.

Chivili allowed a single to put runners on 1st and 3rd — but got Bryson Stott to foul out to Cody Bellinger in left to end the threat.

2. Wells HR Ties It 1-1 in 3rd

Meanwhile, Philly had a bullpen day going — with 6’3 lefty Tim Mayza opening and pitching 2 shutout innings. 6’3 righty Brian Keller came in for the 3rd inning and got the first 2 outs, but Austin Wells Ripped a 430-foot BOMB to opposite-field left center for a 1-1 tie.

3. Bellinger RBI Single Puts NY Up 2-1 in 6th

Austin Wells led off the 6th with a walk against 6’4 lefty Kyle Backhus, who then struck out Ryan McMahon and Ben Rice.

With 2 outs, righty Steve Johnson was brought in to face Paul Goldschmidt, who reached on an infield single to keep the inning alive.

And then Cody Bellinger ripped a single to center for a 2-1 Yankee lead.

4. Martian Insurance HR Makes It 3-1 in 7th

Jasson Dominguez, batting righty, led off the top of the 7th with a 420-foot HR to left off lefty Jose Alvarado for a big insurance run and 3-1 Yankee lead.

5. Bellinger Pulls Hamstring in 8th

Cody Bellinger doubled with 2 outs in the 7th off J Bowlan — pulling his hamstring slightly. He stayed in the game as Trent Grisham grounded out.

6. Yank Pen Shuts Philly Down

Paul Blackburn came up big again — keeping the score 3-1 by pitching a 1-2-3 shutout 7th, and working around a 1-out walk to pitch a shutout 8th.

David Bednar came in for the 9th and pitched yet another non-agita, 1-2-3 shutout inning — 3 straight groundouts — for the old ballgame.
