Judge MOON SHOT & Wells 5 RBI’s Grease ‘Em for Fried. NY 10 KC 2

Aaron Judge with a 469-foot MOON SHOT under a Strawberry Full Moon; his 24th HR of the year.

Aaron Judge started off the game with a 469-foot MOON SHOT that almost went out of the ballpark, Austin Wells hit a 3-run HR in the 4th and 2-run double in the 6th, and Max Fried pitched another gem — 7 innings of 6-hit, 2-run ball — as the Yankees greased the Royals 10-2 in Kansas City on a Tuesday night.

Under a Strawberry full moon.

Fried is now 9-1 1.84 on the year. Aaron Judge went 2-5 and is slashing 24-58-.396 (.491 OBP) on June 11th.

“I made sure to jump up and get to a good spot where I could really watch it,” said manager Aaron Boone on Judge’s HR. “That was evaporated.”

NY improves to 40-25, in 1st in the AL East by 4 games over Toronto. KC falls to 34-33.

1. Judge MOON SHOT in 1st Gives NY 2-0 Lead

KC started Noah Cameron, a 25-year-old, 6’3 lefty who came in with a 2-1 0.85 slashline, making his 6th MLB start.

Trent Grisham worked a 1-out walk in the top of the 1st and Aaron Judge hit a 2-0 fastball 469 feet to left — almost out of the park. A MOON SHOT under a Strawberry Full Moon.

2. Wells 3-Run HR in 4th Gives NY 5-1 Lead

After that Cameron settled down, pitching a shutout 2nd and a 1-2-3 inning in the 3rd (striking out 2 including Judge), and getting the first 2 outs of the 4th — when the Yanks struck again.

With 2 outs, Jasson Dominguez singled to right and DJ LeMahieu singled to center to keep the inning going. Lefty Austin Wells worked a 9-pitch at bat against the lefty Cameron, launching an 80-MPH changeup just over the wall in right for a 3-run HR and 5-1 Yankee lead.

3. Fried Fantastic

Meanwhile Max Fried was fantastic again — using his off-speed assortment and variable 91-97 MPH fastball to stifle the Royals.

Fried allowed consecutive singles to start the 2nd, but then got 3 straight groundouts — KC getting a run to make it 2-1 at the time.

Fried allowed a solo HR to Jonathan India leading off the 6th — by that time NY was up 10-1. Fried allowed 2 more singles in the 6th but got out of the inning, and then pitched a 1-2-3 inning in the 7th.

In between those 2 runs, Fried cruised.

“Max Fried: He pitched the same way when the game was 0-0 and when it was 10-2,” tweeted Pedro Martinez. “He never looked around and went about his business. Never lost concentration. That’s why he kept making pitches when he needed to.”

4. Wells 2-Run Double Highlights 5-Run 6th

Cameron — who again came into the game with a 0.85 ERA through 5 starts — hung in, down 5-1. He pitched a 1-2-3 inning in the 5th — striking out 2 more including Judge for a second time.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. doubled with 1 out in the 6th, and after getting the 2nd out on a groundout — the Royals brought in reliever Taylor Clarke. And that didn’t go well for KC.

DJ LeMahieu walked to load the bases with 2 outs, and Austin Wells worked a 10-pitch at bat — doubling to right on the 10th pitch, a 93-MPH four-seam fastball — to break the game open. NY 7 KC 1.

“Austin Wells now has 4 hits in at-bats of 9+ pitches this season,” tweeted Katie Sharp. “That’s the most among all MLB players.”

You Get an RBI Hit, and You Get an RBI Hit, and You Get an RBI Hit

And then — still with 2 outs — the RBI hits kept coming. Paul Goldschmidt reached on an infield single, and Trent Grisham singled in a run to make it 8-1.

Aaron Judge launched a popup to right that fell in for an RBI single and 9-1 game.

Cody Bellinger singled to center — his 1000th hit — for a 10-1 game.

5. de Los Santos & Hill Finish Up

Yerry de Los Santos has had better outings — yet managed to pitch 1.2 innings of shutout ball. He worked around a 1-out single and a walk in the 8th, getting a pop out and strikeout to end the inning.

It would have been worse if old man DJ LeMahieu had not helped him out with a terrific catch for out #1 in the inning.

In the 9th, de Los Santos allowed a 1-out single, and then a 2-out single and a walk to load the bases.

Tim Hill had to be brought in to get the final out — a fly out to right for the old ballgame.
