The Yankees were leading 5-2 in the 6th when the Dodgers got to Max Fried with 4 straight hits — starting with Shohei Ohtani‘s 2nd HR of the night and ending with an RBI double by Freddie Freeman — sending Fried to the showers in a 5-4 game with runners on 2nd and 3rd and nobody out.
The Dodgers plated 2 more runs off Jonathan Loaisiga and Tim Hill, and poured on 2 more against Yerry de Los Santos in the 7th to win going away, 8-5, on a Friday night in LA.
The game was a Homer shootout early — with Aaron Judge hitting a HR in the 1st, Shoehei Ohtani countering with a HR in the bottom of the 1st, Austin Wells and Trent Grisham hitting HR’s in the 2nd, and Paul Goldschmidt hitting a HR in the 3rd.
It was the first time the two teams met since last Fall’s World Series.
“I don’t think he had his good breaking ball going tonite,” said manager Aaron Boone about Fried. “And then that inning, just left some pitches in the heart of the plate to some obviously good hitters there. Fell behind Shohei and he gets him. Teoscar (Hernandez) did a good job; was a changeup he punched the other way. (Will) Smith gets him back through the middle. And it looked like a sinker middle down to Freddie. Just a rough inning where some good hitters got to him.”
NY falls to 35-21, in 1st in the AL East by 6.5 games over Tampa and Toronto. LA improves to 35-22, in 1st in the NL West by 2 games over San Diego.
1. Judge Homers
The Dodgers started 31-year-old, 6’3 right hander Tony Gonsolin, who is back this season after missing the last 1.5 years due to Tommy John surgery. Gonsolin came up through the LA system and went 16-1 2.14 in 2022, making the All Star team, and 8-5 4.98 in 2023 before his arm gave out.
Aaron Judge got to him as the 2nd batter of the game, hitting a 446-foot blast to center for a 1-0 Yankee lead.

2. Ohtani Homers
But Shohei Ohtani homered right back — leading off the bottom of the 1st with a 417-foot homer to center off the first pitch of the game by Max Fried.

Two batters later, Trent Grisham hit a 382-foot homer to right — plating Oswald Peraza who had walked — for a 4-1 Yankee lead.

The Dodgers picked up a run off Fried in the bottom of the 2nd on a 1-out double by Tommy Edman and groundout by Enrique Hernandez.
But the Yanks fired right back — Paul Goldschmidt leading off the top of the 3rd with a 371-foot homer to right center. Yankees 5 Dodgers 2.

4. Judge Spectacular Catch in 3rd
Aaron Judge did Ohtani one better in the bottom of the 3rd, with a spectacular diving catch of a liner to right by Teoscar Hernandez.

5. Dodgers Get to Fried in 6th
Fried pitched a 1-2-3 inning in the 3rd, a shutout 4th — getting a double play after a leadoff Freddie Freeman single, and a 1-2-3 inning in the 5th — taking a 5-2 lead to the 6th. All looked good.
But in the 6th, the Dodgers got him.
Shohei Ohtani led off with his 2nd homer of the night — a 377-foot shot to right center.

And then 3 more hits in a row — a single by Teoscar Hernandez, a single by Will Smith, and a double to opposite field left by Freddie Freeman. NY 5 LA 4 with runners on 2nd and 3rd and nobody out.

Jonathan Loaisiga came in and immediately allowed an RBI single by Andy Pages that bounced just past Anthony Volpe through the hole between short and 3rd for a tie game at 5-5.

Loaisiga then got Tommy Edman to ground out with Freeman caught at home — putting runners on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out. An intentional walk was then given to Muncy and Tim Hill was brought in to face Michael Conforto with bases loaded.
Hill walked Conforto on a 3-2 sinker and the Dodgers had a 6-5 lead.
Hill did get Miguel Rojas to hit into an inning-ending double play with the bases still loaded — so did his job.
6. Dodgers Get de Los Santos in 7th
But the Dodgers scored 2 more in the bottom of the 7th to take a commanding 8-5 lead.
Hill got Ohtani to fly out for the first out of the inning, and Yerry de Los Santos was brought in to face the righties in the heart of the Dodger lineup. He got Teoscar Hernandez to ground out for the 2nd out — but with 2 outs, a single by Smith, double by Freddie Freeman, and single by Pages plated 2 runs.
An error by Oswald Peraza at 3rd continued the 7th, and sent de Los Santos to the showers.
7. Headrick Wraps Up for NY
Headrick came in and got the last out of the 7th, and pitched a 1-2-3 inning in the 8th for the Yanks.
8. Dodger Pen Shuts Out Yanks
Gonsolin settled down after the Goldschmidt HR in the 3rd, and ended up going 6 innings allowing the 5 runs.
Aaron Judge hit a 1-out double off Jack Dreyer in the 7th, but the Yanks could not advance him.
Ben Rice led off the 8th with a walk off Ben Casparius, and Jasson Dominguez followed with a 2-out single, sending Rice to 3rd — but T Scott came in and got DJ LeMahieu to fly to center.
Trent Grisham led off the 9th with a single off Alex Vesia — but Judge flied out to shallow center, Cody Bellinger flied out to center, and Goldschmidt lined out to 3rd for the old ballgame.
