Will Warren Bombed. LA Angels 8 NY 2

Jazz Chisholm Jr scores the Yankees' first run on an RBI single by DJ LeMahieu.

Will Warren was bombed for 8 runs on 8 hits in 4.1 innings and the Yanks never had a chance, losing 8-2 to the Angels in the 2nd game of a double header on a Wednesday night at Yankee Stadium.

Down 6-0 by the top of the 2nd inning, the Yanks got a run in the bottom of the 2nd on an RBI single by DJ LeMahieu, and came ‘this close’ to getting back in the game when Gleyber Torres hit a drive to right with 2 on that was caught at the wall.

Warren then allowed 2 more runs in the 4th and NY was buried, down 8-1.

Angels shortstop Zach Neto killed the Yanks with 3 hits, a grand slam, and 6 RBI’s.

“A lot of good in there, but in the end, just not enough execution in spots he needed it,” said manager Aaron Boone about Warren. “He’s a confident kid and I really believe he’s going to be a really good pitcher in this league,”

NY splits the doubleheader — having won the first game 5-2; the Yanks fall to 68-47 and into a 1st place tie with Baltimore. The Angels improve to 50-64.

1. Warren Bombed

Warren was ripped in the top of the 2nd inning — 3 consecutive singles to start the inning made it 1-0 Angels. He then walked Jo Adell to load the bases with nobody out — and then struck out the next 2 batters.

With 2 outs — Warren walked Nolan Schanuel to score a run and make it 2-0, and then allowed a Grand Slam to Zach Neto for a 6-0 Angels lead.

Warren rebounded with a shutout 3rd inning.

The game seemed to be turning when the Yanks closed to 6-1 — and just missed making it 6-4 in the bottom of the 2nd, when a long fly by Gleyber was caught at the wall.

But in the 4th, Warren ran into more trouble — a leadoff single by Charles Leblanc, a double by Michael Stefanic, and a 1-out double by Neto made it 8-1.

2. LeMahieu RBI; Gleyber ‘Just Misses’ 3-Run Bomb

The Yanks got a run off Carson Fulmer in the bottom of the 2nd — Jazz Chisholm Jr.with a 1-out double, and DJ LeMahieu with an RBI single.

Carlos Narvaez and Gleyber Torres hit a ball to the wall in right — just missing a 3-run homer that would have made it a game.

3. Gleyber Sac Fly

The Yanks made it 8-2 in the bottom of the 4th — a 1-out double by DJ LeMahieu, a single by Carlos Narvaez, and a sac fly by Gleyber Torres.

4. Tonkin, Hill, Leiter Good

Michael Tonkin pitched 2 shutout innings, relieving Warren in the 5th and pitching shutout ball into the 7th.
