If you’re going to lose, lose. Boy did the Yankees lose this one. But good news: they were losing so big it freed up a lot of Knicks fans to go watch the Knicks-San Antonio game that also started at 7pm.
The reasons why the Yankees lost are quite simple:
1. Taillon Gave Up 2-Run Single & 2-Run Homer
Jameson Taillon got the first 2 outs in the bottom of the 1st, but then single, double, single and it was 2-0 Tampa just like that. The single was by Manuel Margot; the double by Brandon Lowe; the 2-RBI single by Yandy Diaz.
In the 3rd, Randy Arozarena singled and Austin Meadows homered and it was 4-0 just like that.

2. King Gave up 3-Run Homer
Michael King came in to pitch the 6th and walked Joey Wendle, allowed a single to catcher Kevan Smith — then struck out 2 batters for 2 outs — but then allowed a homer to Randy Arozarena and it was 7-0, just like that.
3. Wilson Gave Up 2-Run Double
Justin Wilson came in to pitch the 7th, and catcher Kevan Smith reached on catcher’s interference by Gary Sanchez, Brett Phillips singled, Randy Arozarena walked, and Austin Meadows doubled in 2 runs and it was 9-0, just like that.
4. Hill Shut Down Yanks
Meanwhile Rich Hill was shutting down the Yanks into the 7th — he finished with 6.2 shutout innings, 3 hits, 9 strikeouts.
5. Yanks Got a Late Run
The Yanks finally scored in the 9th — a Gio Urshela single, Gary Sanchez double, and Mike Ford walk loaded the bases with nobody out. Clint Frazier then hit into a double play to score the run. Whoopie.
