Someday, just before the playoffs perhaps, Giancarlo Stanton will be healthy again. Aaron Hicks too. And Edwin Encarnacion and Luke Voit. And there will be no room for Mike Tauchman to play anymore. What then?
That was the thought going through the collective mind of Yankee Twitter last night as Tauchman showed off his 5-tool superstar talent again, leaping over the left field wall like Superman to rob a homerun from the glove of an unsuspecting fan, and going 2 for 4 with a homerun to lead off the scoring. Tauchman’s current slash line: 174 at bats, with 10-36-.299 (.371 OBP, .934 OPS).

Not-Ready-to-Be-Starter Players
And the other not-ready-to-be-starter Yankees too — Austin Romine with a 3 for 5 game and home run; Cameron Maybin with another homer; and old man Brett Gardner with a homerun. The Yankees bludgeoned the Orioles with 6 home runs — this after setting the record for homeruns in a season in a visiting ballpark by hitting their 30th this year at Camden Yards the night before.
On the hill — Jonathan Holder ‘opened’ and did a fine job, Stephen Tarpley was so-so trailing him (6 hits and 2 runs in 2 innings), but it was Nestor Cortes Jr. continuing to shine as a new core part of the Yankee pitching staff. He came in with 2 on and 2 out in the bottom of the 5th, the score 5-4 NY, and got the final out — and pitched 2.1 shutout innings before yielding to Adam Ottavino to close out the game.
Orioles Defense
On the Oriole side of the field, there was this play that some said summed up the Oriole season:

With the loss, the Orioles are now 38-75 — 36 games behind the Yankees.
Yanks in First by 9 Games
And so it was another win — the wins are coming easy now — 7 straight.; 9 games in 1st over Tampa. The only bad news — Gleyber Torres, who has been having trouble with a ‘core’ issue — had to leave the game. The ‘core issue’ seems to be his groin, so he’ll be out for a while.
Etcetera
DJ LeMahieu went 2 for 3 with 2 walks as the leadoff batter, also hitting a homer, and raised his league leading average to .336. Aaron Judge went 0-2 but walked 3 times, as any good #2 hitter should. Didi Gregorius hit a homer as well.
The Yanks were up against Oriole starter Asher Wojciechowski, who they knocked out in the 5th.

Meanwhile in the minor leagues at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Clint Frazier was busy hitting laser beam homeruns.
