Free Agents:
Ichiro Suzuki: will be interesting to see if Yanks bring him back for OF insurance — he has 2,844 MLB hits so his pursuit of 3,000 will draw media attention and money to Yanks. He led Yanks in batting last year — .284 — and was third on team in OBA with a .324 OBA — in a post-steroid year of light hitting that was significant. However he had 102 hits last year in 143 games so he’s two years away. He will be 41 years old. But only made $6.5 million last year so could be a bargain, especially considering his lockerroom leadership with so many young players on Yankees.
Hiroki Kuroda: Another solid season, a dependable starter. However if he is asking anything near the $16 million he made last year, one would think Yanks will take a pass considering how many elephant contracts they have in the room (ARod, Beltran, Sabathia).
