This was the game where the Yanks were to face San Diego’s heralded young ace — Chris Paddack. And that has in the past proved trouble for the Yankees — and any team — seeing a good young pitcher for the first time.
Not this time. The Yanks jumped on Paddack for 2 runs before an out was made in the 1st — DJ LeMahieu led off with a homerun on the first pitch, and Luke Voit followed with a homerun and just like that it was 2-0.

The Yanks added a run in the 2nd on a Gio Urshela homer, another in the 5th and one more in the 6th — Paddack finished with 5 innings, 4 runs.

Paxton Returned in Grand Style
On the other hill, James Paxton was back from the month-long stint on the IL after experiencing knee stiffness. And Paxton was brilliant for 4 innings.

Yanks Continued to Build the Lead
Gio Urshela made a terrific defensive play at 3rd in the 5th to rob Ian Kinsler of a double and keep the shutout in tact.
