Carlos Rodon turned in his 4th straight excellent start, pitching 3-hit, shutout ball into the 6th, and the Yankee Bombers machine-gunned Texas with 12 hits and 18 baserunners, in the easy 8-0 NY win on a Gorgeous — 75-degree, sunny, calm — Saturday afternoon at Yankee Stadium.
It was the first game of the doubleheader — a perfect day to “play 2” — or do anything outside, after the remnants of Hurricane Debby left the area the night before.
NY only got one homer — a solo blast by Jazz Chisholm Jr.in the 8th to make it 8-0 — but strafed Nathan Eovaldi and the Ranger pen all afternoon, jumping out to a 1-0 lead in the 1st, making it 3-0 in the 3rd, and 6-0 by the 4th.
Aaron Judge went 3-4 with a walk, and Austin Wells, batting cleanup, was 2-4 with 4 RBI.
“I thought his stuff was good,” said manager Aaron Boone about Rodon. “He obviously got into a lot of deep counts. His last couple when he got to those 3-2 he’s been winning those today he lost some. But his pitch mix was again good, stuff again, good — able to work around the walks today. Especially, probably in the back of his mind wanted to get deep — probably a little emotional on some of those 3-2 spots instead of just executing. But man he made a lot of tough pitches when he needed to. Another strong outing for Carlos.”
NY improves to 69-48, and tie Baltimore for 1st place. Texas drops to 54-62.
1. Rodon Shuts Rangers Out
Carlos Rodon threw down his 4th straight excellent start — although in this one he struggled with his control, walking 5 batters. But he was tough when he needed to be, and kept intact the early lead the Yank batters gave him.

- After pitching a 1-2-3 top of the 1st, Rodon got into and out of trouble in the top of the 2nd after being staked to a 1-0 lead; he allowed a 1-out walk, and 2-out single and walk load the bases — but got catcher Jonah Heim to fly out to end the threat.
- Rodon allowed a 2-out walk and single in the 3rd inning — but struck out leftfielder Wyatt Langford to end the threat.
- By the 4th, the Yank batters had given Rodon a 3-0 lead, and again he navigated baserunners — a leadoff walk, and a 2-out walk — before striking out 3rd baseman Josh Smith to end the inning.
- Staked to a 6-0 lead, Rodon pitched a 1-2-3 inning in the 5th, and then left leading 7-0 in the 6th, after getting the first 2 outs, then allowing a grounds-rule double to rightfielder Adolis Garcia. With Rodon at 110 pitches, Rob Marinaccio came in to get the final out.
Rodon’s line: 5.2 IP, 3 hits, 6 K’s, 5 walks — he wins to go 13-7 4.18.
2. Gleyber Gets Yanks on Top Early
The Yanks jumped on top in the bottom of the 1st against Nathan Eovaldi — Juan Soto and Aaron Judge with consecutive 1-out singles, and Gleyber Torres with a Clutch, 2-out RBI single for a 1-0 Yankee lead.

3. Wells 2-RBI Double Makes It 3-0 in 3rd
Soto and Judge started off another rally in the 3rd — Soto leading off the inning with a walk, and Aaron Judge following with another single.
Cleanup hitter Austin Wells followed by ripping a double to center, scoring both Soto and Judge. NY 3 Texas 0.

4. Judge & Wells Make It 6-0 in 4th
Judge and Wells were at it again in the 5th: Trent Grisham was hit by a pitch leading off, Alex Verdugo singled, Soto struck out, but Aaron Judge ripped a double to left for a 4-0 Yankee lead.
Austin Wells, up next, singled in both Verdugo and Judge and it was 6-0 Yanks.

Grisham would later leave the game after the hand started to swell up. CT scan and xrays on his hand after the game were negative.
5. Yanks Strafe Across Another Run in 5th
Bryan Burke came in to pitch and the Yanks continued to strafe — Ben Rice leading off the 5th with a single, Oswaldo Cabrera doubling to left, and Alex Verdugo walking to load the bases.
Juan Soto grounded into a fielder’s choice to score Rice and make it 7-0 NY.
The Yanks left the bases loaded, as they had in the 3rd — but in this game it didn’t matter as they were putting plenty of runners across.
6. Marinaccio Excellent
More good news on the day — Ron Marinaccio — called up just before the game — pitched well: 2.1 shutout innings.
Marinaccio got a foul out to end the 6th, then pitched a 1-2-3 inning in the 7th with 2 strikeouts, and pitched a shutout 8th, striking out a batter.
7. Chisholm HR Makes It 8-0
Jazz Chisholm put a homer on the board for the Yanks in the 8th to make it 8-0 — a 416-foot blast to center.
