Yank CRUSH Orioles Late. NY 10 Baltimore 3

The Yankee offense, led by DJ LeMahieu and Giancarlo Stanton, made up for a 3-0 deficit to tie the game 3-3 and then exploded late with 5 runs in the 7th to turn the game into a 10-3 route — beating Baltimore on a summer Wednesday night at Yankee Stadium.

NY took 2 of 3 in the 3-game series.

1. Taillon Terrific

Jameson Taillon allowed 2 runs in the top of the 1st inning: a leadoff single, single (and error by Joey Gallo to allow runners to 2nd and 3rd), strikeout, sac fly (by Ryan Mountcastle), and single (by Austin Hays).

But then Taillon settled down and pitched a good ballgame.

Taillon allowed 3rd run on a homer to the red-hot Ryan Mountcastle in the 4th but that was it. Taillon pitched into the 7th — finishing with 6.1 innings, 4 hits, 3 runs (2 earned), 10 strikeouts, 1 walk.

2. LeMahieu Leads the Offense

The red hot Anthony Rizzo got the Yankee offense going with a homer in the 4th, followed by a single (by Aaron Judge), walk (to Giancarlo Stanton), RBI single (by Gleyber Torres) to make it 3-2 Baltimore.

Then DJ LeMahieu took over:

LeMahieu singled in the tying run in the 5th:

LeMahieu singled in the go-ahead run in the Yankees’ 5-run 7th:

Giancarlo Stanton doubled in 2 runs later in the 7th, and then Gleyber Torres doubled in a run to make it 8-3 NY.

LeMahieu doubled in 2 more runs in the 9th for the 10-3 final score.

Yankee Bullpen Cruises

Jonathan Loaisiga, Clay Holmes, and Albert Abreu all pitched shutout ball.

Holmes — recently acquired to replace the traded Luis Cessa — has looked impressive with ground ball after ground-ball out. He got help from a laser throw from Aaron Judge in right to nail Craig Mullins trying to stretch a single into a double.

Albreu looked great in the 9th — striking out 2.

  • Giancarlo Stanton went 2-3 with a walk and 3 RBI — to raise his avg to .257 (.356 OBP).
