Yank Bullpen Clamps Down Philly: NY 3 Phil 1 (2nd game); Aug 5, 2020

Jonathan Loaisiga pitched into the 3rd (2.1 innings) as he has been doing on Yankee bullpen days — allowed a run and left with a 1-1 score; then the rest of the bullpen came in and pitched shutout ball the rest of the way, outdueling Philly’s Aaron Nola, who pitched 6 strong innings (1 run). Nola was 3rd in Cy Young Award voting 2 yrs ago at 17-6 2.37, and 12-7 3.87 last year.

The game was 1-1 into the 7th (and final inning for doubleheaders during Coronavirus), when a Mike Tauchman double scored Giancarlo Stanton, and Gio Urshela singled in Tyler Wade to make it 3-1 NY.

Zack Britton came in for the 1-2-3-out save, to give the Yanks a split of the 7-inning doubleheader.

Voit Homer

Luke Voit hit a homer in the 2nd off Nola to put the Yanks up 1-0 in the 2nd.

Other Yanks

Aaron Judge went 1-3 he is batting .310. Mike Tauchman (1-3), Giancarlo Stanton (1-3), and Gio Urshela (2-3) were other Yanks with hits.

The Yanks are now 9-2.
