Yanks Shutout for 1st Time in a Year & a Half — Sept 2, 2019: Texas 7 NY 0

Can’t win ’em all. And every once in a while you get shut out. For the Yankees it had been a year and a half — June of last year — 220 straight games without being shut out.

After a 3-hour rain delay to start the game, Mike Minor pitched shutout ball into the 8th inning to go 12-8 3.12.

Ironically Gary Sanchez just missed hitting a 2-run homer in the 1st — banging a ball off the left-field wall for a 2-out double that sent Gleyber Torres to 3rd and rounding 3rd, before he stopped and went back to the base.

Masahiro Tanaka pitched well — 6 innings, 2 runs — but took the loss to go 10-8 4.42.

And that was ballgame — the Yanks only got 6 hits. Mike Tauchman got 2. Gary Sanchez, Mike Ford, Luke Voit, and Tyler Wade got the other hits.

Nestor Cortes Jr. struck out the side in the 7th — his 1st inning of work, but allowed a 3-run homer in the 8th to Delino DeShields.

The Yankee highlight of the day was Clint Frazier throwing out a runner to keep the score 2-0 in the 5th.
