Aaron Judge hit a 2-run homer off Angels starter Dillon Peters to tie the game 2-2 in the 3rd inning and that was it for the Yankee offense. The Angels’ bullpen of Luke Bard, Ty Buttrey, and Hansel Robles hurled 5 shutout innings to stop the Yanks, 3-2. The Astros won to take over sole possession of best record in baseball; since they also own the tiebreaker with the Yanks, they essentially have a 2-game lead with 9 games to go.

Adam Ottavino allowed the go-ahead run in the 6th to take the loss — he allowed 3 straight hits — a double and two infield singles — to get into a bases loaded nobody out jam, before getting a fly out to keep the runners in place, but hen made a throwing error himself on a grounder allowing an unearned run to score. Tommy Kahnle came in to strike out 2 to end the inning and the threat but the damage was done.

In CC Sabathia‘s final start at Yankee Stadium, he cruised through the first 2 innings, and struck out the first batter of the 3rd before allowing a single, walk, single, walk, single for 2 runs. He got a pop out and was relieved — pitching 2.2 innings allowing 2 runs and left to applause and fanfare.

It was Giancarlo Stanton‘s first game back from the long stay on the injured list. He ripped a double to centerfield in the 2nd and went 1 for 3 batting 5th.
