Ryan McMahon hit a 3-run HR in the bottom of the 4th — tying the game; Ben Rice hit a 2-run HR in the 5th — putting the Yanks ahead 5-3; and Camilo Doval got roughed up but managed to get the final groundout in the 9th, with runners on 2nd and 3rd — for a 5-4 Yankee win at The Stadium on a Hot Tuesday night.
The win came just before the Knicks launched their incredible comeback in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals at Madison Square Garden, erasing a 22-pt deficit with 7:50 left to beat Cleveland in OT.
Will Warren got the win — which didn’t look likely when he got beat up in the top of the 4th, allowing 3 runs on a walk and 4 singles. But he survived and pitched a shutout 5th — while McMahon, Rice and the rest of the Yankee lineup had his back. Warren turned the ball over to the Yankee bullpen for the 6th — and Tim Hill, Jake Bird, Brent Headrick, and Doval held off the Blue Jays the rest of the way.
“Camilo bent but didn’t break,” said manager Aaron Boone afterwards. “A good job by continuing to stay poised. To go thru the heart of the order there to finish it off — gotta love that poise.”
NY improves to 30-19, 3 back of Tampa. Toronto falls to 21-27.
1. Warren Survives Shaky 4th to Get Win
Will Warren allowed a 1-out single in the 1st, then retired 8 in a row and was cruising until the 4th inning, when it all came apart.
Centerfielder Daulton Varsho led off the 4th with a single, then Warren walked 3rd baseman Kazuma Okamoto, and allowed consecutive RBI singles to leftfielder Yohendrick Pinango, and rightfielder Jesus Sanchez for a 2-0 Toronto lead.
A sac bunt by 2nd baseman Davis Schneider moved the runners to 2nd and 3rd, and an RBI single by Gimenez made it 3-0 Toronto.
On the ropes and staring at a loss — Warren rebounded — getting a popout and groundout to end the 4th — and immediately received a reprieve when the Yanks scored 3 in the bottom of the inning on a 3-run HR by Ryan McMahon.
Warren would pitch a 1-2-3 shutout inning in the 5th and leave at 86 pitches — and end up getting the win to go 6-1 3.61.
2. McMahon 3-Run HR in 4th Ties It 3-3
Meanwhile Dylan Cease and his Big Mustache was shutting down the Yanks — until the bottom of the 4th when Aaron Judge challenged a called strike and won — walking to leadoff the inning.
Cody Bellinger flied out but Jazz Chisholm Jr. worked a walk and Ryan McMahon hit a 383-foot HR to left for a 3-3 tie.

3. Rice 2-Run HR in 5th Gives Yanks 5-3 Lead
NY got to Cease again in the bottom of the 5th — a 1-out walk by Trent Grisham and a 366-foot, 2-run HR to right center for a 5-3 Yankee lead.

4. Yankee Pen Holds Fort
And that was all the runs the Yanks would get, and need.
- Tim Hill pitched a shutout 6th (allowing just a 1-out walk);
- Jake Bird got 2 outs in the 7th before hitting a batter. He was helped by Ben Rice who made a great play at 1st.

- Brett Headrick came in and allowed a single but got the final out of the 7th, then pitched a 1-2-3 shutout 8th.
5. Doval Gets PHEW Save
Adam Macko, Chase Lee, Mason Fluharty, and Louis Varland shut the Yankees out in the 6th through 8th innings — and so it was to the 9th, the Yankees sending Camilo Doval to the mound for the save as David Bednar has pitched the prior 2 nights in a row.
Doval immediately allowed a leadoff walk to shortstop Andrews Gimenez and single to pinch hitter Ernie Clement, putting runners on 1st and 3rd.
George Springer lined out — moving Clement to 2nd, and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit a sac fly for a 5-4 game.
Varsho then reached on an infield single, and stole 2nd base — putting runners on 2nd and 3rd with 2 outs in the 5-4 game.
But Doval got Okamoto to ground out to shortstop for the old ballgame.
