The game had just started when Aaron Judge, Cody Bellinger, and Giancarlo Stanton went back-to-back-to-back with HR’s for a 3-0 lead.
That was just the teaser of a Homer onslaught as the Yankees hit 9 (nine) Homers to bomb the lights out of the Rays for a blowout 13-3 win at George Steinbrenner Field in Tampa on a HUMID Tuesday night.
The Yanks were up 10-2 by the 4th inning.
- Jose Caballero hit a HR in the 2nd to make it 5-0,
- Jazz Chisholm Jr. hit a HR in the 3rd to make it 6-2,
- Giancarlo Stanton and Ben Rice hit back-to-back HR’s in the 4th (Stanton’s 2nd HR) to make it 10-2,
- Cody Bellinger hit his 2nd HR of the night in the 6th to make it 12-2, and
- Jose Caballero hit his 2nd HR in the 9th for the 13-3 final score.
It all backed 6 strong innings by a drenched-in-sweat Carlos Rodon, who went to 13-7 3.24. The Yankee bullpen of Mark Leiter Jr., Yerry De los Santos, and Tim Hill wrapped up.
The game was delayed 2 hours by rain.
“Just a really impressive offensive showing against a team that is not always easy to score runs against,” said manager Aaron Boone afterwards. “When you have a game like this every now and then — where it’s lopsided you can stay away from people as you start a long — 13 in a row (stretch). All those things matter. So I don’t take it lightly when we’re able to add on and have a game like this.”
NY improves to 68-57, and remains 5 behind Toronto but moves to a game ahead of Boston, who lost. Tampa falls to 61-65.
1. Yanks Go Belly-to-Belli-to-Belly in the 1st
Tampa started 26-year-old, 6’3 righty Shane Baz, who came in with an 8-9 4.93 record.
He struck out Trent Grisham to start the game — and then the Yanks brought out the heavy artillery.
Aaron Judge hit a 92-MPH cutter on a 1-1 pitch for a 429-foot HR to center — his 40th HR of the year.

Ian Seymore — a 26-year-old, 6’0 lefty — relieved Baz to start the 4th and fared no better.
Seymore got Trent Grisham to line out to 1st, but Aaron Judge worked a 1-out walk, Cody Bellinger singled, and Big G hit his 2nd HR of the night — a 376-foot HR to opposite field right center for a 9-2 Yankee lead.

6. Rodon Good
Meanwhile Carlos Rodon was good — pitching 6 strong innings in a Drenched uniform on the Hot and Humid Florida night.
He allowed the 2 runs in the bottom of the 2nd on 3 straight 1-out singles and a ground out, but then threw shutout ball through the 6th.
He struck out Periera looking on a 2-2 slider to end the 6th with a runner on, his 102nd pitch — accomplishing his goal of giving 6 innings. His line: 6 IP, 5 hits, 2 runs, 5 K’s, 2 walks.

8. Leiter, De los Santos, & Hill Finish Up
Mark Leiter Jr. worked around a hit-by-pitch and 2-out error by Caballero at 3rd to pitch a shutout 7th.
Yerry De los Santos got the first 2 outs of the 8th, but then allowed a double and a walk, threw a wild pitch, and allowed an infield single for a run before getting the final out.
And Tim Hill wrapped up in the 9th — allowing a 2-out single but striking out Kim for the old ballgame.
