Aaron Judge‘s hot hand — hot after shaking President Trump’s hand the day before and hitting 2 HR’s — stayed hot as he hit a MISSILE over the Green Monster and out of Fenway Park in the 1st inning to give NY a 1-0 lead.
Judge’s luck continued in the 3rd, when he walked with 2 outs and scored on a Cody Bellinger RBI single — after the inning had ended on a Ben Rice flyout but restarted as catcher’s interference was called and Rice was put at 1st.
That gave NY a 2-0 lead and that’s all that Luis Gil and the Yankee bullpen needed — Gil pitching a no-hit shutout for 6 innings and the pen of Fernando Cruz, Devin Williams, and David Bednar closing it.
On a beautiful, 68-degree Friday night in Boston.
Gil navigated some tricky spots due to 4 walks — but made big pitches when he needed to in maintaining a 2-0 lead through 6 innings. NY picked up 2 insurance runs in the top of the 7th on small ball and an error by Boston’s David Hamilton.
“I feel like the last several days he’s getting it rolling,” said Boone on Judge. “I feel like right now he’s getting to where he needs to, to fire properly and make good swing decisions, without getting too far into it.”
“Anytime you come into Fenway Park it’s going to be an electric atmosphere,” said Judge afterwards. “So for us getting a run in the 1st and another in the 3rd and put the crowd out of it a little bit was big time because it allowed Gil to calm down, let him go to work with a nice little lead. You gotta come in here, swing the bat, and do it early because if they get a little momentum, it’s game over.”
NY improves to 82-65, and remains 3 back of Toronto but pull 1.5 ahead of Boston for the lead Wild Card position. Boston falls to 81-67.
1. Judge Remains Red Hot After Shaking Trump’s Hand
Boston started Lucas Giolitto, the 31-year-old, 6’6 righthander who has been great this year for Boston and came in with a 10-3 .338 record.
He struck out Trent Grisham to start the game but Aaron Judge RIPPED a 92-MPH fastball HIGH AND DEEP to left — over the Green Monster and out of the ballpark — a shot that measured 468 feet. Yankees 1 Red Sox 0.

Judge passed Joe DiMaggio and is now 4th on the All Time Yankee list for HR’s behind only Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle, and Lou Gehrig.
2. Bellinger RBI After Catcher’s Interference Restarted 3rd Inning
Giolitto was careful the next time he faced Judge — walking him with 2 outs and nobody on in the 3rd — but again it hurt him.
Ben Rice hit a fly out to left to end the inning — in fact Dave Sims on the radio was about to go to station break — when the play was recalled for catcher’s interference on former Yank Carlos Narvaez.
So Ben Rice was put on 1st base instead, and Judge moved to 2nd.
The Red Sox announcer was in the booth with Dave Sims for the inning — in a friendly broadcast thing — and mentioned that Narvaez has been hit numerous times during the season, especially early in the year, with catcher’s interference as he tries to steal a strike by sticking his glove in there.
It came back to cost Boston as batter Cody Bellinger hit a clutch, 2-out RBI single to left, scoring Judge for a 2-0 Yankee lead.

3. Gil Throws 6-Inning No Hitter
Meanwhile Luis Gil was Great, again. He was filthy for the first 4 innings — throwing strikes and staying away from the wildness that he’s had since starting the season in early August after the right lat strain suffered in March.
Gil:
- Pitched a 1-2-3 inning in the 1st,
- Got 4 straight outs in the 2nd (working around a 1-out error by Jose Caballero at shortstop on a throw that Ben Rice should have had),
- Worked around a 1-out walk in the 3rd, and
- Pitched a 1-2-3 inning in the 4th.
Up 2-0, the wildness returned in the 5th as he walked the first 2 batters — although the 2nd walk was debatable as Gil seemed to clip the inside strike zone for strike 3 to David Hamilton but it was called ball 4. Catcher Austin Wells was livid.
But with 1st and 2nd, nobody out — Gil got tough. He got Nate Eaton to pop out — then was charged with a balk to put runners on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out. Gil then struck out Ceddanne Rafaela and got Jalen Duran to line out to left. Phew.

Up 2-0 in the bottom of the 6th, he walked Alex Bregman to lead off, then got a double play ball to 2nd that Jazz Chisholm Jr. got the out at 2nd on, but threw over Ben Rice’s head at 1st and the batter — Trevor Story — went to 2nd.

But with 1 out, runner on 2nd in a 2-0 game, Gil struck out Jonathan Lowe and got Masataka Yoshida to ground out to 2nd — maintaining his no hitter, shutout, and 2-0 lead.
Gil left at 93 pitches. His line: 6 IP, 0 hits, 0 runs, 4 K’s, 4 walks. He wins to go 4-1 2.83.
4. Yanks Get 2 Insurance Runs on Caballero SPEED in 7th
Lucas Giolitto pitched a strong game into the 6th. He was relieved by lefty and former Yank Justin Wilson, who got the last out of the 6th and came on for the 7th.
Jose Caballero hit a ground-rule double to the right-field corner with 1 out, just missing a HR by the Pesky Pole.
Caballero then stole 3rd base.

Caballero then scored on a grounder to 2nd by Ryan McMahon — the throw home getting away for an error on David Hamilton the 2nd baseman.

That allowed Ryan McMahon to go to 2nd. Justin Wilson struck out Trent Grisham for the 2nd out, intentionally walked Aaron Judge to put 2 on with 2 outs.
And Ben Rice made them pay with a clutch, 2-out RBI single to center for a 4-0 Yankee lead.

5. Fernando Filthy But Coughs Up HR in 7th
Fernando Cruz came in to pitch the bottom of the 7th in a 4-0 game and was filthy — striking out Carlos Narvaez looking and David Hamilton swinging at his nasty splitter.
But with 2 outs, Nate Eaton clipped him for a 380-foot HR over the Green Monster in left. NY 4 Boston 1.
Fernando then walked the next batter Rafaela — and here we go again — Fernando having had awful control in his prior outing.
But Fernando reared back and struck out Duran with a nasty splitter on a 2-2 pitch to end the inning.
6. Jazz Thrown Out at Plate in 8th
The Yanks almost got an insurance run in the top of the 8th off Zack Kelly. Giancarlo Stanton led off with a walk, and was replaced on the basepaths by Jasson Dominguez.
Jazz Chisholm Jr. hit a single towards 2nd that hit the baserunner Dominguez — who was called out for being hit by batted ball. Jazz then stole 2nd, and went to 3rd on a wild pitch.
Austin Wells walked to put runners on 1st and 3rd — and Jose Caballero hit a fly to medium right for a possible sac fly — but Nick Eaton gunned Jazz out at the plate. Jazz thought he was safe — and the Yanks challenged — but lost the challenge; it was ruled too close to overturn.

7. Devin & McMahon/Goldy Defense Gets It Done in 8th
Devin Williams was in for the bottom of the 8th — and allowed a leadoff single to Alex Bregman and here we go again.
But Devin got Trevor Story to ground out, struck out Lowe, and got Masataka Yoshida to ground out down the line at 3rd — Ryan McMahon making a nifty play and Paul Goldschmidt making a nifty catch at 1st to end the inning. Boone had put in Goldschmidt at 1st, replacing Rice for defense to start the inning.

8. Bednar a 1-2-3 Save
And then to the 9th in a 4-1 game and David Bednar in for the save.
Bednar made it easy — a strikeout of Carlos Narvaez, popout of David Hamilton, and strikeout swinging of Nate Eaton for the old ballgame.

Etcetera
- Judge went 1-3 with 2 walks, and with his 3 for 4 the day before is now at .323. Jacob Wilson is at .317. The two were in a virtual tie at .319 — with Judge leading by a hair — 2 days ago.
