Bronx Bombers Blast 9 HR’s in Blowout. NY 13 Tampa 3

Aaron Judge hits his 40th HR of the year in the top of the 1st -- the 1st of 9 Yankee HR's on the night

The game had just started when Aaron Judge, Cody Bellinger, and Giancarlo Stanton went back-to-back-to-back with HR’s for a 3-0 lead.

That was just the teaser of a Homer onslaught as the Yankees hit 9 (nine) Homers to bomb the lights out of the Rays for a blowout 13-3 win at George Steinbrenner Field in Tampa on a HUMID Tuesday night.

The Yanks were up 10-2 by the 4th inning.

  • Jose Caballero hit a HR in the 2nd to make it 5-0,
  • Jazz Chisholm Jr. hit a HR in the 3rd to make it 6-2,
  • Giancarlo Stanton and Ben Rice hit back-to-back HR’s in the 4th (Stanton’s 2nd HR) to make it 10-2,
  • Cody Bellinger hit his 2nd HR of the night in the 6th to make it 12-2, and
  • Jose Caballero hit his 2nd HR in the 9th for the 13-3 final score.

It all backed 6 strong innings by a drenched-in-sweat Carlos Rodon, who went to 13-7 3.24. The Yankee bullpen of Mark Leiter Jr., Yerry De los Santos, and Tim Hill wrapped up.

The game was delayed 2 hours by rain.

“Just a really impressive offensive showing against a team that is not always easy to score runs against,” said manager Aaron Boone afterwards. “When you have a game like this every now and then — where it’s lopsided you can stay away from people as you start a long — 13 in a row (stretch). All those things matter. So I don’t take it lightly when we’re able to add on and have a game like this.”

NY improves to 68-57, and remains 5 behind Toronto but moves to a game ahead of Boston, who lost. Tampa falls to 61-65.

1. Yanks Go Belly-to-Belli-to-Belly in the 1st

Tampa started 26-year-old, 6’3 righty Shane Baz, who came in with an 8-9 4.93 record.

He struck out Trent Grisham to start the game — and then the Yanks brought out the heavy artillery.

Aaron Judge hit a 92-MPH cutter on a 1-1 pitch for a 429-foot HR to center — his 40th HR of the year.

Cody Bellinger went back-to-back and belly-to-belli by hitting a 92-MPH cutter on a 1-1 pitch for a 381-foot HR to right.

Giancarlo Stanton — in his first game back after resting the weekend series against St. Louis — went back-to-back-to-back and belly-to-belli-to-belly by hitting an 0-2, 98-MPH fastball for a 386-foot HR to right center.

2. Caballero HR Makes it 5-0 in 2nd

3. Jazz HR Makes It 6-2 in 3rd

After Carlos Rodon gave up 2 runs on 3 straight singles and a groundout for a 5-2 game in the bottom of the 2nd, Jazz Chisholm Jr. got a run back with a 382-foot HR with 1 out in the top of the 3rd. Yankees 6 Tampa 2.

4. Stanton & Rice Go Back-to-Back for 10-2 Lead in 4th

Ian Seymore — a 26-year-old, 6’0 lefty — relieved Baz to start the 4th and fared no better.

Seymore got Trent Grisham to line out to 1st, but Aaron Judge worked a 1-out walk, Cody Bellinger singled, and Big G hit his 2nd HR of the night — a 376-foot HR to opposite field right center for a 9-2 Yankee lead.

Ben Rice then went back-to-back and belly-to-belly with a 406-foot Blast to right center for a 10-2 Yankee lead.

5. Bellinger HR Makes It 12-2 in 6th

Seymore pitched a shutout 5th against the bottom of the Yankee lineup, but NY was right back at him in the 6th — an Aaron Judge leadoff single and Cody Bellinger’s 2nd HR of the night — 348 feet to right for a 12-2 game.

6. Rodon Good

Meanwhile Carlos Rodon was good — pitching 6 strong innings in a Drenched uniform on the Hot and Humid Florida night.

He allowed the 2 runs in the bottom of the 2nd on 3 straight 1-out singles and a ground out, but then threw shutout ball through the 6th.

He struck out Periera looking on a 2-2 slider to end the 6th with a runner on, his 102nd pitch — accomplishing his goal of giving 6 innings. His line: 6 IP, 5 hits, 2 runs, 5 K’s, 2 walks.

As the game went on, his wife Ashley cheered the Yankee bombardment on Twitter.

7. Caballero 2nd HR of Night in 9th

Jose Caballero hit his 2nd HR of the night in the 9th, this one a 386-foot no-doubter to left center off Mason Montgomery for a 13-3 Yankee lead.

8. Leiter, De los Santos, & Hill Finish Up

Mark Leiter Jr. worked around a hit-by-pitch and 2-out error by Caballero at 3rd to pitch a shutout 7th.

Yerry De los Santos got the first 2 outs of the 8th, but then allowed a double and a walk, threw a wild pitch, and allowed an infield single for a run before getting the final out.

And Tim Hill wrapped up in the 9th — allowing a 2-out single but striking out Kim for the old ballgame.
