Yankee Prospects Starting to Look Good (and Needed)

Two consecutive tough loses — games that should have been won — and three loses in a row overall, plus a hamstring injury to Carlos Beltran have put Yankee fans in a down mood this week — fans on Twitter seem leaning toward “sell”.

On the bright side:

  1. Rob Refsnyder is 4th in OBP amongst AL rookies with 50 or more at bats  and 5th in batting avg. He has another chance to start now — playing right field for Beltran (as Mark Teixeira is back playing 1st base). Yanks could use Refsnyder making a run at Rookie of the Year.
  2. Conor Mullee (4-0 0.52, 6 saves in AAA) looked good last night (needed him Monday night when Kirby Yates took the mound after a 3.5 hour rain delay, and proceeded to hit 3 batters, give up two singles and turn a 6-5 win into a 9-6 loss.
  3. Chad Green is 6-6 1.54 as starter in AAA.
  4. Ben Gamels is batting .293 down there (same avg that Refsnyder had in AAA before coming up). Gary Sanchez at a respectable .280 with 8 homers.
  5. And here comes the Judge — Aaron Judge on a HOMER tear in AAA. He now leads the International League in homeruns.
